Are you the same person that was born years ago, or has God molded you into a person who walks in His light? I know the little one born in February, 1952 is not the same person who is writing this blog today. God created me to be a Christian woman through many varied experiences and talents, but He is not done with me yet. In keeping with that thought, “I have miles and miles to go before I sleep,” wrote Robert Frost.
There are many places in the Bible where we are told to walk with God. The following seven verses tell us how God wants us to walk our Christian path with Him. These verses are from the King James Version of the Bible. 2 Corinthians 5: 7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Ephesians 5: 2 says, “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.” 1 John 2: 6 says, “he that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” 1 Thessalonians 4: 1 says, “Furthermore, then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye he received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.” Ephesians 5: 8 says, “For ye were sometimes in darkness, but now ye are light in the Lord: walk as children of light.” Ephesians 5: 15 says, “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise.” Galatians 5: 16 says, “This I say then, walk in the spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
As I have walked my seventy-four year journey, my steps were originally walked by God, but I made the choices for the directions of those steps. My thoughts, words, acts, moods, and attitudes did not always line up with God’s will, but upon further evaluation of my free-will decisions, I beleive that most were what He wanted for me. Walking with God is not always easy, but it has taught me a lot about myself and a lot about His will. We are no stronger than those walks, but also, no weaker than what He wants us to be. I have stumbled and fallen a few times, but God was always there to pick me up and lead me forward.
And still, what continually echoes in my heart is, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40: 31 KJV) I am waiting to fly as an eagle, after so many miles and so much sleeping, to my heavenly Father and those who have gone before me, who are walking by His side and in His light presently. I have seen His footprints in the sand behind me, and I will see them again in my Eternal home. Why? Because He carries me now.
