According to Lutheran liturgy, this is the second Sunday of Easter, but last Sunday didn’t feel like Easter because of COVID-19. I wasn’t in church, wasn’t singing the glorious hymns of Resurrection, and wasn’t hearing God’s word from the minister. As with churches across the nation, my church was closed, and I was struggling with my computer speakers to get any sound from them. Somehow, sitting in front of a computer screen, trying to lip-read what’s going on in a…..
Christ lives! Let all the world sing! The cross is empty. Let praises be heard in every home. Death will never survive the power of love. Christ lives! He is not bound to the pain of the whip. He bore the cross so that all may be blessed with abundant life. He saves and heals even today in every place and time. With every affliction and war, color, contempt, and wealth cannot divide us. Christ suffers with us and loves…..
In Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, we learn there is a season to everything and a time for every purpose under heaven. There’s a time to be born, a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to harvest; a time to kill, a time to heal; a time to break down, a time to build up; a time to weep, a time to laugh; a time to mourn, a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, a time…..
Where is America being led and who is doing the leading? Are you concerned about whether either party, Republican or Democrat, is headed in the Right direction; ever wonder if an independent party would run the country in a more positive way? I just re-watched an older movie entitled, “The Postman,” and suddenly, I realized America is not much better off than the story line for this movie that took place in 2013. In the movie, our country had suffered…..
My mother said, “Put your coat on; it’s cold outside.” My mother said, “Eat your supper; children around the world are starving.” My mother said, “Clean up your room; get those dust bunnies before they jump on your bed.” Before she passed, my mother said, “You have to grow up more quickly now. Take care of your dad and brother.” At her grave site, I could still hear my mother say, “Always remember your are a child of God.” I…..
A wolf, a leopard, a lion, a bear, an asp, and an adder: all will live together with the lamb, the kid, the calf, the fatling, and the cow. They will lie down together with their children. They will eat together, and they will eat the same things. All of God’s creatures will be filled with the spirit of the Lord, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of courage and might, and the spirit of knowledge and fear…..
This world is being attacked by negativity and evil each and every day. We watch or listen to the news reports and wonder what has happened to our once peaceful planet. I firmly believe God is not allowing us to destroy each other. He gave us choice so that we can make the right decisions or wrong ones. We need to return to the cross where Jesus Christ took our sins and gave up His life so that we may…..
It’s not often that I am so inspired that my breath is taken away, but that’s exactly what happened in Milan, Italy. I was visiting for a few days before I met my riverboat cruise in Venice. Milan is a beautiful city where fashion is at its height. I did not visit Milan because of that; instead, I wanted to see the magnificent painting by Leonardo da Vinci, The Last Supper, which was painted between 1494 and 1498. Despite many…..
God was there when I was born, and He’ll be there when I’m old. He was there in my baptism and waited to see my life unfold. He walked beside me as a child and gave me faith the size of a mustard seed. I wandered off in my youth to find the demons of the world. He was by my side as I heard the Word with gladness. Mom and dad taught me to praise the living Lord, the…..
We had a horrendous storm this weekend that did tremendous damage over the area, complete with scary lightning, flooding rains, booming thunder, straight line winds, and vicious tornadoes. It almost made me feel like God was angry at us for some reason, but I realized God sends us storms to help us learn from our mistakes, whether its terrible environmental decisions, regulations on preparedness drills, or just spending too much money on landscaping projects. My lessons came from loving to…..
