As I was sitting in church this morning, a striking fact confronted my perception of the Christian Church today. It was Rally Day, and yet, there were few people in church. Perhaps people were staying home to watch the Packers games; some may have had children with athletic games. Still others may have gone to the car show at the park. More significantly, will the American Christian church survive into the next decade, or will it succumb to the apathy…..
It amazes me that the same forces that influence men and women in wars also have influenced Americans’ response to the COVID pandemic. With Omacron COVID, we are starting to see a possible light at the end of the tunnel from its death-like grip on our bodies but also that COVID may stay around in some form or other for years to come. There are contrasting responses between the forces that support life and those that support death in this…..
When the crowds could not find Jesus and his disciples, they took their boats across the sea to the town of Capernaum. When they found Jesus, they asked why He came to Capernaum. He said, “You are looking for me because you ate a meal I provided for you. Do not work for food that perishes but for food that endures for eternal life. God has set His seal on the Son of Man.” The crowd asked what they could…..
Throughout my life, I have been a survivor, a fighter, God’s child. This past year was perhaps the most challenging of my entire life. Between the ages of 68 and 69, I have conquered my fears and anger by growing my faith in God from a tiny mustard seed into a tall oak tree. Hope triumphed over pain, and my life is, once again, surrounded by the love of Jesus Christ. In His unconditional love, I am becoming the Christian…..
Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. He is the Messiah and the Son of the living God. God revealed these things to me from my first breath as a baby in a 6-room coal miner’s hospital in Frostburg, Maryland through today as I sit at my dining room table writing this blog in Shawano, Wisconsin. We are surrounded by the awesome power of God, and His Son abides in everything I do. When Jesus spoke to Peter in Matthew…..
Today is Pentecost Sunday. By all memories, this is the day the Holy Spirit came down from heaven and descended on the apostles. My church was closed once again because of the COVID-19 pandemic. As I have done in the past, I found church services on the internet that were very comforting, but I realized very quickly that I was moved more by the wonderful musical performances on YouTube. You see, I pray with my music, and that art form…..
As our streets are once again running in blood and unrest, I wonder what God is saying as His children are letting the sins of racism, misogyny, and lying eclipse anything that most Americans are trying to do for their brothers and sisters affected by COVID-19. None of us deserve the hatred, violence, and cut-throat negativity that have reared their ugly heads in recent days in Minnesota. These three sins need to be destroyed forever. Only Christian love and true…..
Tears and dreams are the voice of God. Whether we listen to them is largely how deeply we feel our faith and how much we trust God to take care of our needs. God will not simply change our lives and all that life sends our way. He uses our problems and trials as ways to proclaim the gospel, to bring hope to its highest level of triumph, and to let grace shine into the world. The Christ child was…..
We lit the fourth Advent candle today in church. We’ve been watching for the Messiah with the lighting of every candle, in the hopes that the darkness surrounding the world will be destroyed and the light of Christ’s love will show through everyone. God, who always fulfills His promises, will bring us salvation. He will feed us like a shepherd and gently lead us home. Make straight the highway and make a joyful noise to the Lord our God. Send…..
God was there when I was born, and He’ll be there when I’m old. He was there in my baptism and waited to see my life unfold. He walked beside me as a child and gave me faith the size of a mustard seed. I wandered off in my youth to find the demons of the world. He was by my side as I heard the Word with gladness. Mom and dad taught me to praise the living Lord, the…..
