On this Memorial weekend, I am profoundly thankful for all who have served in our armed services and for those who paid the ultimate price so that we might have the freedoms of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I am also very thankful for the peace that has resulted in the world, but my prayers today center around the lack of respect for the peace of our children. Will they live to take another breath while attending our…..
We all have images of Christmas that we think describe what Christmas is. Some say they like making vows to lose weight after the holidays, which they quickly break after a month or so. Others see trees beautifully decorated, Santa Claus coming down the chimney leaving gifts under those trees, caroling around the neighborhoods, family gatherings and telling old stories about members of those families, building snowmen and snow ball fights, and Creches depicting Mary and Joseph smiling at Jesus…..
Have you ever had to defend your actions and beliefs? (Romans 12:2) Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. We shouldn’t be afraid to stand up for who we are as Christians; we shouldn’t hide our identities simply because the world says we should. Unfortunately, our society tells us what we should be and turns its…..
COURAGE… What is it? Some say it’s using a machine gun to defend your platoon in a bloody battle. Others say it’s using your words and deeds to fight for the rights of others, despite your own personal safety. Some say it’s calling your wife after an airplane deliberately hit the building you work in and knowing there’s no way out. Others say it’s taking responsibility for your actions in a personal relationship. Throughout history, there have been many heroes…..
I have been writing about people of great faith and courage in the past months. It is said that when a person uses their faith in striving to do good things for humanity, that faith gives them the courage to do the impossible. I have written about Mother Teresa, Albert Schweitzer, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Corrie Ten Boom, Tony Nathan, Eric Liddell, Luis Palau, David Wilkerson, Sister Helene Studler, St. Peter, Pope Pius XII, and Pope John Paul II; all of these…..
COVID-19 has caused me to reflect on America’s current health crisis. One of my comfort activities has been watching older movies. If I am serious about my feelings during this time, they have become more non-trusting as more and more Americans have died due to the disease. Three particular movies can explain how I feel America is handling this pandemic: “Big,” starring Tom Hanks, “The Finest Hours,” starring Chris Pine, and “The Perfect Storm,” starring George Clooney. The movie, “Big,”…..
It’s hard to stay true to your values in today’s world and even more so for our teenagers. I dare say they are faced with more challenges than I ever was as a teenager. It takes having a mission, uniting the gifts given to us by God, planning and working together so that all will know Christ’s love, serving and witnessing in God’s name so that others will know God’s grace, and letting our united efforts bring God’s word to…..
A while ago, I wrote about my tree of life, my blue spruce pine tree that I planted twelve years ago in front of my home. I have beautiful gardens around my property, each with a tree or two to accentuate the themed-garden. That blue spruce is now gone, as well as another blue spruce pine tree, an autumn blaze maple tree, and two crab apple trees, all of which were victims of the bad storm we had at the…..
My mother was such a blessing to our family and to the world. She waited on so many things in her life, but she grew more courageous and strong by the waiting. “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord.” (Psalm 27:14) Even in death, my mother’s courage and strength have continued to guide my voice, hands, feet, heart, and eyes. Her love of life and all of…..
