Where is America being led and who is doing the leading? Are you concerned about whether either party, Republican or Democrat, is headed in the Right direction; ever wonder if an independent party would run the country in a more positive way? I just re-watched an older movie entitled, “The Postman,” and suddenly, I realized America is not much better off than the story line for this movie that took place in 2013. In the movie, our country had suffered from some apocalyptic occurrence, and it was turned into a wasteland. There were very few people left remaining, and the small outposts of people left yearned for a loving country to call their own and a president to be proud of. A traveling actor, turned postman, started to deliver the mail to those small outposts of people, and so, the people began to believe in the country once more. Having mail delivery meant that they were, once again, connected to the rest of the country and their families. Their hard times were validated by the simple skill we all need: communication.
A fierce overlord arrived in the first outpost with his army, trying to steal, by any means, the hard-earned goods and food that the outpost produced. A scene that caused my eyes to tear showed the burning of the American flag; seeing her flag burned, a little girl began singing “America, the Beautiful.” Has America stopped communicating in a civilized manner so much that the burning of our flag and the criticisms of our Constitution are the only way Americans can talk to one another?
As the movie continued, teenagers took up the gauntlet and began delivering the mail to all parts of our country. The children became the courageous ones, much like our nation’s young people today. A character who portrayed a Vietnam veteran said he couldn’t ride a horse or even walk very well, but he was there in the outpost to support the children. How many Americans are supporting the children today, no matter what the cost to ourselves?
Throughout the movie, the postman brought the spirit of hope to every small outpost he could find. Like many of our situations today, people began turning on each other, and some of those postal riders died at the hands of the overlord’s army. When our children can’t remember what America stands for or what is Right or Wrong, it’s time to change what they see in us as adults. We can’t expect our children to learn how to communicate in positive ways if we can’t as adults.
Bringing hope to the small outposts of people around the country, the postman inspired all to regain their strength to start rebuilding America, one step at a time. We must stand up to restore an America to be proud of. America will prevail when faith, hope, and love are, once again, restored in our hearts. Love will be the greatest legacy we can leave our children.
God is calling us to stand up, to be faithful to Him, and to courageously say to all who would destroy the fabric of America, “We are Americans. Nothing any false prophet can say or do will ever crush our spirit. We are a Nation under God; we place our faith in Him and pledge our allegiance to our country. Without His help, we will fail. Americans need to trust in God, not tyrants. Only He is capable of getting us back on the Right path, not the false prophets.”
