When I learned the Apostle’s Creed as a teenager in Catechism classes, I really didn’t understand what I was saying. I simply memorized it and tucked it away in my brain for future Sunday services. Now as a 67-year old child of God, I know it is about my faith. Through my baptism, my parents promised to raise me as His child with trust and hope. As an adult, I have tried to expand that trust and hope through my own Christian growth.
I believe in God as my Father almighty and as the creator of the heavens and the earth. I believe in Jesus Christ as His only Son and my Lord. Christ was born with the power of the Holy Spirit to a virgin Mary. He was brutalized by Pilate and was crucified on a cross. He died a horrible death and was buried in a tomb. His body left the earth and descended to Hell.
Christ rose on the third day and ascended to Heaven, where He sat to the right of the Father. When He comes again, He will judge the living and the dead. The Holy Spirit is central to my beliefs, as well as the catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.
I have had a beautiful life that began the day I was baptized and continues today through God’s love and grace. Christ has walked by my side and carried me when I was lame. He came after me when I strayed and brought me back to the flock. I was forgiven my sins, and my soul was truly blessed. Nothing is impossible with God, and I am proof of His abundant love. I am and will forever be His Child.
