Ever wonder how much God knows about you with so many people on the planet? He knows you by name, everything about you, even the tiniest hairs on your head. We get anxious about making major decisions that affect our futures but forget that God has a vested interest in getting us home to Him. Psalm 23:3 (KJV) tells us: “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” Moses and his people were led by the Lord after wandering in the desert for many years, and He never left their sides. Exodus 13: 21-22 (KJV) states: “And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light to go by day and night: He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.” The Holy Spirit guides us still today as we learn in John 16:13 (KJV). “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”
God is leading us even still today, so why do we get lost? We get lost because we follow society’s culture rather than following God. We have stopped listening to the Holy Spirit within us who speaks on behalf of God. God wants us to be different from those who have stopped following Him. He wants us to pray to Him for directions in our lives and not be swayed by what is considered right in the minds of many people in our secular culture. Romans 12:2 (KJV) states: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect, will of God.” When you place your hand over your heart in the presence of God everywhere in your life, God lives in your soul, and His Spirit of truth will live in your thoughts, decisions, and actions. John 14:17 (KJV) states: “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”
We are led by two tools of God’s Spirit: the verse and the voice. “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,” states Ephesians 6:17 (KJV). The Bible, God’s Word, is “a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path,” states Psalm 119:105 (KJV). God supplements His Word through our seeking of wise counsel among friends and professional helpers, through beautiful scenes of nature in His creation, and through our own inner sense of consciousness, “what is right and good.” We need to recognize His voice just like we recognized signals and voices in our childhood games or from parental requests. By finding and reacting to the Shepherd’s voice, we become part of His flock, and He knows even the smallest voice of the smallest lamb in His family.
God uses every person, every thing, and every time to help us make decisions of great import for our lives. When we choose God as the authoritative voice in our hearts, He sets a place for us at His table, and He feeds, clothes, shelters, and guides us in every way toward our Eternal home. For me, “it is well with my soul” because I know, deep within this earthly body, lie the loving and caring hands of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Through God’s Son, I have no worries for the future, and His lamp lights my path towards home. My decisions made here on earth are but small reminders of my life here when I remember what God has in store for me with Him.
