“Father, help me to come closer to You and to others.” These are my words of prayer today as I seek His quiet voice within my soul. I do not like the place that cell phones have in our society because they have stolen the personal connections, the face-to-face conversations, we have with each other. They have disrupted our lives, and yet, we have learned to accept and manage their interruptions. Somehow, we seem to have more patience with cell phones than with people; we move from communication with their use to the real things that should matter with the speed of light. All the while, there is something missing in our day-to-day interactions with people, the personal contact we all need to comfort our hearts and minds.
Just as we are connected with these impersonal things, we need to stay connected to Jesus Christ, even when there are problems. We must avoid being useless and fruitless; we must not confuse our worldly successes with following God. I pray for a closer walk with Jesus Christ and to stay connected to my Heavenly Father so that the world will know His personal voice and His unconditional love.
(John 15: 1-7) I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burneds. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
