Acts 2:1-5…”And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Today is Pentecost, and as I sit here listening to Pavoratti singing, “Nessun dorma,” (I came, I saw, I conquered), I am filled with the Holy Spirit as it filled me while I was standing on the bow of the ship as it was steaming up the Inside Passage of the Alaskan Peninsula. Purple, majestic mountains surrounded us, and bald eagles flew overhead in that beautiful sunset evening. Every time I hear that beautiful, Italian, operatic solo, I feel God’s spirit all around me, and so it is still protecting my soul as I am at rest in my Father’s and His Son’s arms.
My prayer today is that new life may be breathed into my bones and that the Holy Spirit may pour truth into everyone’s soul. May His truth transcend our world and give us languages to proclaim the gospel to all the earth. May Jesus Christ live and reign in all of us, and may the Holy Spirit and the one Living God bless us with love and grace to forgive each other. May we cherish each day as a gift from our Holy Father, may we walk in Christ’s footsteps, and may the Holy Spirit enter our souls with the spirit born of unconditional love and peace.
