It’s 8:00 P.M. Wilmington, Delaware time; it’s 7:00 P.M. Shawano, Wisconsin time. I’m sitting here watching crowds all over our country, all over the world, dancing and celebrating the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the new presidential administration of the United States of America. I’m crying tears of joy to hear two God-centered people announce to the world what I’ve wanted to hear for four years. We need to come together as one nation again, heal our wounds, and become the great nation that we can be by working together, not against each other.
The love I’ve always felt for America boiled over after being stymied for all of these frustrating and painful years. The fear I’ve felt was lifted from my heart as Joe announced he would fight for all of us, all Americans, regardless of our race, color, ethnicity, creed, religion, or party. The anger I’ve screamed into my television whenever Trump came on with his white supremacist, womanizing, humiliating, and violence- inciting actions and attitudes towards anyone who disagreed with him or all Americans, has been set free from my mind. There is only one God. Trump seeped into the pores of every Americans’ skin like a slithering snake, into our children’s lives like an abusive father, into our homes-pitting family members against family members, into our communities like a predator-putting boxing gloves on all our hands, and into our own White House-making it blacker than when the British burned parts of it to the ground in the War of 1812. Our collective regret as a nation should be why did we allow such a venomous snake to enter every porthole of our country?
An all-empowering peace wrapped around my whole being as though I could breathe again, not the foul divisiveness that has assaulted my senses for years, but the true courageous, truthful, and caring new spirit of a re-born nation. With people around the world and leaders of the world celebrating this moment, we know how a divisive Trump sought to destroy other nations as well as our own. I cried and I thanked God for helping Joe and Kamala to speak their truths, their hopes, and their love for our country, to give us the strong leadership that we need to defeat the virus, to build our relationships positively, and to move the nation forward towards a better American dream.
The next four years will be hard and difficult, not just for our new administration, but for all of us. We need to stand together, put our differences aside, and remember that no American should ever feel alone. We can once again say, “One nation under God, with liberty and justice for all.” God will give us wings of eagles so that we can be the kind of nation He wants us to be. He has given us the leaders; now, it’s time we do the hard work together to build a better tomorrow. We’ve all been fighting the darkness. As God said, “Let there be light,” and it was good.
