Who or what has defined you? Is it your parents, a spouse, a friend, your education, your job, your possessions, your money? Is it Jesus Christ?
As I sat in our outdoor sanctuary this morning, singing “Beautiful Savior,” the lyrics reminded me of who should really define me. My Savior is the King of creation, Son of God, and Son of man. I love and serve Him; He is the light of my soul, my joy, and my crown. He made the meadows and woodlands fair and dressed them in flowers. He is fairer and purer than anything; He takes my sorrow and changes it into joy. The sunshine and moonlight are fair, as well as the stars in the sky. Jesus shines brighter and purer than all the angels. My Savior is Lord of the nations, Son of God, and Son of man. I will bring glory, honor, praise, and adoration to Him for as long as I live.
Being human and not without faults, I sometimes fail to put Him first. If you were to ask me today, “Who or what has defined me?,” I’d say, “I’m a Christian and I hope I can live up to His sacrifices for me. All other people and things are meaningless if I do not put Him first.” I pray that God will provide me the love, grace, and hope to let my light shine into the world, not because I am a special light, but because I am a child of God.
